The MTN Xtravalue plan is the best Tarrif Plan right now.
Basically, the plan comes in two categories; the XtraData and the XtraTalk.
National calls are pegged at 40 kobo per second ... (hang on a second) and SMS is pegged at the regular ₦4 per text (Lovers of SMS will like this particularly)
The MTN XtraValue tariff plans can also be used while roaming, although it depends on the particular bundle you want to subscribe to in the Xtravalue plan.
The plans start at ₦300 way up to ₦20,000.
For XtraTalk (more talk than data)
The ₦300 plan gives ₦1000 talk and 50mb of data for a week.
While the ₦500 plan gives ₦1,950 for talk and 100mb for a week.
Now let's do the calculations:
Ai. ₦1000 ÷ 40 kobo gives us 41.67 mins
Bii. Let's compare using MTN Pulse (11 kobo per second after the first minute) ₦300 / 0.11k
Which gives us 45.45 mins.
Bi. ₦1,950 ÷ 40 kobo gives us about 81.25 mins
Bii. Also comparing using MTN pulse at 11 kobo per sec it comes out at about
₦500 ÷ 11 kobo which gives 75.76 minutes.
Proof:
It is true the MTN pulse beats the XtraTalk slightly in the ₦300 category, I also did not factor in the first minute call rate and the 50mb is also a Plus, say it cancels out.
Now for the ₦500 XtraTalk category:
It clearly beats the MTN pulse by almost 5½ minutes and if you factor in the 100mb it's clearly a better deal, and the SMS 😀 thing.
Now, For the SMS Lovers:
For those who haven't already figured out, If you divide ₦1000 (gotten from the XtraTalk ₦300 plan) by the same ₦4 per sms you get a whooping 250 SMS'
If you went with the regular ₦300÷4 it gives only 75 text messages.
Incredible right?
The catch, its for a week remember??
Skeptics will be quick to point out that there are other Tarrif plans that offer bonuses on recharge like the *8 bonus and all that. Some of them have restrictions on the number of SMS you can send, some allow you to do normal ₦4. If you know any plan better than this at SMS I'd love to see your comment in the comment section 😁.
Bottom line:
This plan is not for everyone obviously, but if you spend more than ₦300 a week or ₦1000 a month on calls and SMS then you should try this out.
I largely ignored the XtraData side of the plan on this post because I'm talking about Tarrif Plan not data plan. You are free to check them out using

It automatically adds you to Xtravalue Tarrif Plan and you must migrate out or make calls at 20 k/s if you chose not to subscribe to a plan after your existing plan is exhausted or expired.
Yes! you can subscribe even when your existing plan is not exhausted 😎
